    Billy Bragg

Has decided to stop paying tax as a protest over bankers bonuses.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2...ve-pay-bonuses

I think this hypocrite is upset that someone might earn more than him, that he feels guilty that he is so wealthy and has decided to become a socialist.

This arrogant envious little man is a typical example of the selfish envious wealthy champagne socialist that I so despise.

Presumably if their bonuses go elsewhere it wont bother him that the 50% tax take will disappear.

They might not be so f**king sanctimonious about it either.

and there are those who see it from a different point of view.

The tax we pay bailed out the banks

The banks should therefore not pay out bonuses until they have paid the tax back

If the government is to weak to do force this through then lets all not pay out taxes until such time as the banks pay back their debts

Oh and if the bankers start whinging they can always fu< off and get another job

Actually I agree, but I also feel that of all people, the very last who should refuse to pay taxes are socialists, seeing as they’re the barstewards that want all ‘above average’ earners to pay silly amounts of tax. What Bragg is doing is saying ‘all those other rich people should pay lots of tax but I shouldn’t because I’m a rich socialist with ‘principles’ ’.

So in order to be competitive why shouldnt the "nationalised banks" be allowed to pay market rates for their staff? Presumably if the general public (taxpayer) is allowed to set rates of pay according to their own prejudices (as opposed to market forces) then they shouldnt complain when their bank fails.

I sometimes wonder why people are so incapable of being logical.

              It's just attention seeking.

BB: I'm withholding my tax payment in protest at the tax taken from the honest, hard-working proletariat is given in outrageous bonuses to those bloated, RBS, capitalist dogs. <*punches air*> Power to the people!!

HMRC: OK, we'll prosecute you and you'll probably go to jail.

              BB: Is a cheque OK?

              HMRC: That'll do nicely.

He wrote on the social networking website: "I understand that the Treasury had little choice but to use taxpayers' money to safeguard savings and stabilise and restore confidence in the financial system.

"What I don't understand is why, now that we taxpayers are the majority shareholders of these banks, we seem totally powerless to curb their excessive bonus culture?"
I agree with Billy, if you think it's better to pay bankers lots of money in order to tax them then why not do the same with a more deserving profession such as nurses?

Banking is a lazy way to make money, usury is not real work yet we have allowed a system to flourish where bankers hold us by the bollox. The one time where we have a chance to change the system we buckle and let them carry on.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

If I am actually honest it is not the small bonuses which are paid to the lower paid average staff.

It is the stupidly large bonuses paid to the fu<wits who caused the problem in the first place that I take exception to.

why on earth would we pay more for nurses? most of them are thick and lazy and carry no responsibility for what they do. They do not generate wealth.

You may like to explain also why banking is an undesirable way to make wealth? why is it lazy? It can be easily argued that the banking systems of the world are what have enabled so much business to flourish (including and especially IT contractors).
