UK economy doomed - Now we're losing pharma ...

Massive cuts in one of the UK's hitherto success stories.
And these job losses are the brainy R&D ones.
But the big corporations don't care - their job is to maximise profits wherever they can.
The cake becomes smaller and smaller as the de-skilling of the UK continues.

The job cuts will be made across all regions and divisions and were necessary because some of the company’s major products including the child asthma medication Pulmicort, which made sales of $1.3 billion in 2009, and breast cancer treatment Arimidex, with $1.92 billion in sales will be losing patent protection in the near future.
Your cash cows are coming out of patent protection so you slash R&D? The point of patent protection is to let you fund further R&D and have new patented cash cows. What's the plan, become a mass manufacturer of cheap generics?

The plan is for the CEO to maximise his remuneration as cutting jobs usually leads to a short-term uptick in stock prices blah blah short term B/S thinking.

The plan is to cut costs dramatically, thereby raising profits for a couple of quarters, then take a huge bonus, cash in the options and leg it while you can.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

What do your new business partners think of you spending so much time here?
If I were them, I would be VERY hacked off.

Big pharma will be fine as long as they can keep inventing up government-backed health scares like the "swine flu pandemic".
