    Google search re-directing….

Had a virus on my home laptop lately.

Installed Avast, Stopzilla, gradually taming the virus.

Upgraded browser to IE8 as well.

However, when I run a google search and click on a link, the link re-directs to a different web-page, typically a website questioning my manhood……

    Cleared all IE settings.

    Any ideas?

Superantispyware. That has found and removed nasties on friend's and relative's machines that others couldn't.

I keep a copy on a memory stick handy for when I get those phonecalls. Why these people can't be more careful I do not know.

You can buy cream for that.
Oh, I’m sorry….I seem to be lost. I was looking for the sane side of town. I’d ask you for directions, but I have a feeling you’ve never been there and I’d be wasting my time.

You work in IT, have no AV and are relaying on stuff like Avast and the like from the web? Am shocked. I am sure we will argue Avast etc is great and some people like it but it's hardly industry leading and though we were supposed to know a little better. No? Is it more a case cause we workin in the industry we are probably the least insterested in our home kit ? lol

Also our ability to figure techinical problems out should be at question either. Have you tried searching for the webpage in question on another PC or search engine. The result should tell you exactly what it is you have and exactly what to do to get rid of it. I hardly think you are the first person to get this and it isn't well documented somehere!

It is highly likely you have Mal ware rather than a virus now so checkers will not remove it as system sees it as genuine.

        <bemused>

P.S My breadcrumbs appear to tell me this is General. I could have sworn we had a Technical section. Silly me

Format your hard drive and start all over again. That is the only way.

do an online scan, highly recommended, follow the instructions and if you have any further questions ask in Technical or the response will be "wibble" if posted in General.

If your so stupid to not have any AV and also lacking the intelligence to post a question in the relevant forum then frankly you deserve whatever it is you've got.

Yep - don't you bother reading anything other than smutty threads?

Try Technical - everybody raves about Microsoft Security Essentials...

I use Avast myself, but if I was daft enough to click on Casino Royal emails, I use that...
