                    The memory can play tricks though. I thought Steve McQueen's character revved up a slope and managed to leap over the fence to freedom. But watching the film last year reminded me that, sadly, he didn't make it.

                    I probably misrecalled it because the version where the guy escapes must have appeared a dozen times since in other films.
