Do contractors demand canapés or aspire to them?

I just received an invite from my agent to attend a PR event to help them 'understand my needs'. Top of the list of things designed to tempt me into attending is an 'exciting assortment of canapés'. This resonated with something I saw on CUK a while back from an umbrella or suchlike offering to help me with my 'tax planning' (whatever that is), they were offering canapes too (but without the French accent).

Now I don't know about you lot but my knowledge of canapes amounts to knowing my blinis from my cheese+pineaple and not much else but am left wondering if this approach is because us contractors have been labelled by the marketing industry as people who 'demand canapés' or maybe 'aspire to canapés'?

BTW, if there are any marketing types out there reading, all you have to do to guarantee the attendance of the majority of contractors I know is advertise 'free booze served by beautiful single women'.

It's not an incentive for me. (but then I used to run a catering company and we did a lot of canapés) .

I don't know why people would use this as an incentive. Its a very good gauge of the type of people that you are dealing with if you can look at the wine and food that they are providing.

One party I attended at xmas, served the cheapest canapés available along with whatever the cheapest wines were on the drinks menu.

Dunno about demand; they always just seem to be there waiting for me with a glass of Krug when I am escorted to my seat.

Well, that was the case when I was flying and I don't do much of that at the moment. These days, my aspirations are to have memories and aspirations in 24 hours time.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I didn't work out what a canapé _was_ until quite recently.

I gather it is a small tart filled with fishy or cheesy goo.

          That's a vol-au-vent.

Canapes are so much more than just vol-au-vents.

              Tempura prawns...

              Exotic and risky!

Just my kind of finger food...

                  risky?

I do enjoy tempura prawns, even make them at home occasionally. Apart from the deep fat frying, I wouldn't call the risky!

If they've been left out in a warm spot for an hour or 2 you'd soon know...
