    SKA development newsletter and meetup

Got this in my Inbox this morning.
The Electronics Knowledge Transfer Network is seeking to sponsor upto 5 delegates from industry at the SKA 2010 conference between the 22nd and 25th March.
This event brings together the world's leading academics and engineers to discuss the full SKA programme. The event is arranged as sets of presentations and discussion groups covering all the key aspects of the project - from antenna design, analogue electronics, data transfer through to DSP and supercomputers. The ability for companies to be involved and contribute in such a large and advanced project is unique.

The rapporteurs will attend all sessions and the relevant discussion groups. After the event they will be asked to produce a brief contribution for a report covering the opportunities for industry within the SKA programme.

Another opportunity for companies to participate in SKA development and form contacts with the project team is to attend the evening reception on Wednesday 24th March.
This is being held at Manchester Museum and will allow UK companies to meet an invited group of delegates who are interested in working with industry. With over 80 people attending this will be an excellent opportunity for networking in an informal environment.

See article below for further details.

These reports will be used to provide an anlysis of opprotunities for the UK electronics sector from the investment in SKA. The key technology areas to be reported are signal reception (antenna and phased array), signal processing, data transmission, data analysis and power utilisation. This conference may well represent the tipping point between academic research and engineering design - so now is a critical time to understand the opprotunities available. ...

SKA - Meet the teams - evening event March 24th in Manchester
The SKA programme aims to develope the most advanced radio telescope ever conceived. The instrument is designed to advance the study of the universe and answer some of the fundamental questions. However, it also represents the world's largest and most advanced data acquisition, data processing, data transport and data analysis system. With enough fibre optic cables to go round the world ten times, the capacity to carry the world's internet traffic and a supercomputer 100 times faster than any of today's equipment. The advances undertaken as...

Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."
