For Those Thinking Of Moving Away From IT...

Just take a look at what a senior chartered accountant gets of financial careers...

    40-50K working in a bank...

Expecting to find work at 600 a day is dreamland if you are being serious with yourself

I know people who are accountants who are on more than that.

However they don't work at banks and work much longer hours than even long working IT bods. The lucky ones get to take the excess work home with them to work there as the unlucky ones are stuck in the office.

Plus they spent the early years of their careers having no life as they were working and studying for exams with the added bonus of if they failed their exams they would get sacked.

Another chip on my shoulder post from Joey.

      Yawn.

I'm going off to have my weekly bath now. Unfortunately, I need a serious bowel movement too so it's not going to be nice in there.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Flips sake HAB. You don't need to do both at the same time

I am (was) a Cost and Management Accountant, CIMA now, ICMA as it was, I jacked it in around 1992 and I think I was on about 26k then, in the grim North...

For the sheer amount of effort, studying, cramming, pointless rules, learn-by-rote, boredom, Accountancy takes the biscuit, after Degree, I spent five years studying for, doing, failing, eventually passing ICMA exams, in those days each of the levels was four exams and if you failed one, you failed the lot. I think. It was a long time ago, a mental black hole for me. Never going back to that....

I bought a set of Oracle Financials DVD's hoping to specialise in Accountancy Software/Migrations but after installing it, couldn't face looking at it....

          Believe me, stick with IT....

Just take a look at what a senior .net tape changer earns...

£30-35k a year and you can forget about hiding all those trips to the lap dancing bars in the books

That's because the proper senior accountants don't have job titles like "senior accountant". They are called things like "finance director" or "CEO". If you include them in your figures you might cheer up a bit.
