    Woops

I got an email from the delivery manager this morning. He is a contractor as well and hosts the defect tracking database with a web hosting service provider.

The database for this has grown > 2GB so the hosting provider just binned it. And have not got a backup.

    Doh.

    That's made things complicated.

He hosted critical business data on some 2-bit cheap web-host without telling anyone? Or am I reading too much into what you describe?

Nope that's about it. Although ClientCo have not provided any alternative and I think he was trying to help.

      Guys,

The xxx database has been dropped inexplicably between sometime Friday 6pm and 6am this morning. I was attempting a restore with the hosting company who informed me it was over 2GB and therefore had been excluded from the automated backup. We're currently trying to find when the last backup was IE under 2GB

How many defects did it have ? To full up 2GB you are looking at billions of records.

So you store data like attachments, files etc in the database ?

You deserve to lose the data.
