It's a nice problem to have, but couldn't you get someone else in to do the other one?

      It isn't too late.

      Think

The client won't have already turned down the other candidates.

But decline now, say there was a mix up, you'd accepted a contract and then there was some misunderstanding blah blah blah. The agent will squeal, but so what, no harm done. The chances that specific PM will be the next most important source of a contract is highly highly highly unlikely. The market will be booming.

So decline, but do it NOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!

The client will then ring up the other one, and problem solved.

Not sure what you're going to do now, but for the future you're going to always use a specific email address for contract-related stuff, and set up a mail filtering rule that puts all mail to that address neatly to one side in its own folder before it even comes up for consideration by the spam filter.

Alternatively, when you're dealing with an agent, set up a rule for all email from that agency that does the same thing.

The honest thing to do would be to offer your bestest benched friend the first one you can't take now....

Have calmed down now and taken a few breaths.

Thanks to all for a calm steer...

Just tell them you have exercised a woman's prerogative to change your mind, and opt for the better option. Or blame it on short term memory loss...or even that you are not thinking straight because you are riding the cotton pony. Any old nonsense will do really.

You've got to ask yourself, would it have happened on a Mac?
