Just had to word up the Software Manager...

To the effect of "Never, ever ever send an email like that again!"

    All

Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to let <contractor N> go.

Without going into the details, this decision was based on his performance to date.

    Regards

    XXX XXX, Development Manager
Anyone out there see what he did wrong?

That he hit the 'send' button?

Why should it be "All's" business?

These guys just disappear normally, like a willo-the-wisp...

He called you "contractor N" instead of "Churchill"?

              Mmmmmm.

I'd have a quick chat with m'learned friends over that one.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Exactly! I suggested that he have a word with the HaRpies before he does anything like that again.

Don't get it, sorry. Can someone break this down for me. I have crayons if it helps.

Interesting - you are all thinking like permies.

                    Had the software manager said

We are no longer using the services of company x

noone would have had a problem

and that in effect is what has happened.

also it useful to know that the company is no longer dealing with contractor n/company x as if you had any work outstanding you would know you had an issue...

                    probably
