Harassed by a LibDem 'friend' of facebook

I've had to take the rather embarrassing step of telling a facebook 'friend', whom I've known since my student days, to stop pushing his politics on me.

He couldn't handle that I thought Cameron had won the final leaders debate, as did most people. In particular that Nick Clegg in my view was exposed and humiliated in that debate, with regards to his barmy amnesty for illegals policy especially.

Since then I've had a few messages on facebook by him with reports from the Guardian defending the LibDems and attacking Cameron. And I've seen him post quite a few messages accusing Cameron and his supporters of xenophobia etc.

Why are some people so insecure in their own beliefs that they cannot handle other people they know who have different opinions?

It looks like the country is coming to its senses and are distancing themselves from Clegg and will back Cameron so that we get a decisive result, a Conservative government to clean up the socialist mess of the last 13 years.

I'm pleased about that and won't harass people on my facebook who won't vote Cameron, that's the behaviour of immature LibDem supporters.

I don’t understand what you’re complaining about. Has he really harassed you or merely tried to persuade you of his political views?

How did he know what you thought? Were you by any chance pushing your politics on him?

No, I know this guy for a while and have told him several times that my politics is conservative right wing and my religion is Christianity.

Hence, why he would think I would be interested in voting Lib Dems I don't know.

However since that first leaders debate this guy and his girlfriend have been behaving like cheerleaders for Nick Clegg, and are in denial about Clegg's poor performance in the third debate despite the polls all showing this.

Quite why he is trying to brainwash me or put pressure on me to vote Lib Dem I don't know. I've never seen anyone so religious about their politics and scathing of anyone who disagrees.

But that’s not harassment. You may be Christian conservative right but open to persuasion. I am not Christian and a sort of liberal conservative; always open to persuasion if people want to explain their views in a reasonable and respectable way, even though I’m pretty well set in my own views. Of course, someone trying to persuade me to support Labour would have his work cut out, but surely the process of persuasion and discussion is at the heart of democracy and should be encouraged. You have an opportunity to persuade him of your views, so why not take up his wish for discussion?

That's not the only angry outburst and harrassment I've seen in this election campaign. The other day I had to put up with a hardcore Labour supporter be very aggressive with a chap who he hardly knew who said he used to vote Labour but this time will vote Conservative. I didn't get involved but merely thought to myself that this kind of behaviour was a great advert for the Tories.

It appears the Labour and Lib Dem types are getting angry at the prospect of a Conservative government and are taking it out on ordinary voters who have a democratic right to vote for who they choose.

                    You're joking, right??

Or are you so lacking in self-awareness?
