The only decent-ish area is around the arboretum, I lived in one of the new build flat's near there for a short time a while ago.

Avoid, erm, anywhere else in Walsall really. It really is a tuliphole.
Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

So where in the area would you reccomend then? Will be working near the M6 so commute not too much of a problem, but it's a fixed term perm so costs have to be kept down

Not looking good blacjac. The only guy I ever met from Walsall moved to Swindon!!!!

Not sure you're asking for advice in the right place. See what's available then check to see what the crime stats etc are. Find the postcode of the arboretum and get as close to there as you can, is my advice.

Does it have to be Walsall?

Nope, as long as it's a reasonable commute....
