Only if you are too stupid to install AdBlock Plus for yer FireFox 2.

Now if I wonder if I get a ban for saying that?

and this one >>>>>>>You want to get rid of the CUK Navigation panel? A bit harsh :)

How about, if people donate cash to CUK they won't have to have ads? I don't imagine CUK is out to make profit, just cover their costs, so a donate link might be nice.

Or a premium membership option which costs £10/year and hides all ads once you login... even those with adblockers might choose to support the site.
It works on other sites, not sure about CUK though.

Would rather do that than allowing heat from my laptop heat up my entire bloodstream from the overrun GPU...

There's the Safari Flash blocker ClickToFlash (http://clicktoflash.com/) - I haven't used it myself, but others speak well of it, including John Gruber of Daring Fireball (http://daringfireball.net/linked/2009/01/27/clicktoflash-rentzsch).

Seriously funny post.Exactly why it is both worth considering, and should be voluntary. Other forums give extra stuff for paying members, like some online space (for hosting images) or ability to support fancier avatars/custom signatures/etc.

I use this Using a Hosts File To Make The Internet Not Suck (as much) (http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/) to cut out the junk ads on many sites with IE8 browser when I can't use Firefox and Adblock.

I use this Using a Hosts File To Make The Internet Not Suck (as much) (http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/) to cut out the junk ads on many sites with IE8 browser when I can't use Firefox and Adblock.

Dan Pollock's done a really good job with that hosts file over the years, although some cruft has built up - for example, goatse.cx hasn't been the foul and wretched thing it used to be since it was originally closed down.

Then again I may be too hasty to judge: a quick look at what's currently hosted there makes me wonder if the custodians of the Christmas Island ccTLD might not be getting careless again. It's clearly engineered to suggest forthcoming SKA news (not AtW's SKA, obviously, but the goatse one) but they didn't even get the date functions working properly: looks like email address harvesting by spammers to me :tantrum:

Perhaps it's better if such subdomains are indeed cast forever into... well, a black hole ;)

Trouble is the advertising companies get too greedy and let anyone in with obnoxious animated, screen covering rubbish, then on top ofthat you have the adverts slipped in by the "Russian Business Network". No sane person should be browsing WITHOUT an ad blocking setup.

Or even an epileptic fit by looking at that effing football. I’ve just blocked it off

...or, like many, your client is still using IE6.CAn't you manually add URLs to the blocked list even in IE6? You might have to do them 1 by 1, but you could could block big ad companies quickly.

Has anyone tried it on either Leopard (PPC) or Tiger?

Both installations fail for me, but don't say why.

Edit:The Common Problems/Questions with ClickToFlash (http://rentzsch.github.com/clicktoflash/questions.html) is eff-all use.

I'm using 10.6.3 snow leopard, installed fine - I thought the fans were broken I've not heard them all day...

I ended up grabbing the beta, and that installed OK on Leopard.

The fans weren't a problem in winter, but now it's warmer (well it was today), their noise is starting to irritate me. :(
