oh dear (tm): Europe tells Britain not to ask for help in a crisis

Officials from both euro and non-euro countries said Britain should not ask for help if it runs into trouble because it had not signed up to a £378 billion support fund.

French, Swedish and many Brussels officials have predicted that it is only a matter of time before Sterling is hit by the same market turbulence that came close to destroying the euro at the weekend.

Jean-Pierre Jouyet, a former French Europe minister and the current chairman of France's financial services authority, yesterday predicted only "God would help" a rudderless Britain after it snubbed its euro zone neighbours.

"There is not a two speed Europe but a three speed Europe. You have Europe of the euro, Europe of the countries that understand the euro ... and you have the English," he said. (AtW's comment: surely that can't be right )

"The English are very certainly going to be targeted given the political difficulties they have. Help yourself and heaven will help you. If you don't want to show solidarity to the euro zone, then let's see what happens to the United Kingdom."

French bank BNP Paribas yesterday warned that the post-election fallout could lead to Britain's losing its high creditworthiness market rating, a move that could lead to a run on the pound. The UK is running an annual debt rate even higher than Greece. (AtW's comment: that's ok folks, Greece can't devalue it's currency because it is stuck into dirty euro zone who'd mount a massive bailout to save them, instead GBP can tank against major currencies to help "exporters" pull out the economy. )

Eurozone leaders and EU finance ministers meeting in emergency session last weekend prepared the bail-out as a financial crisis threatened to spread from Greece to engulf Spain and Portugal.

If you don't share your ball with others, you can't expect them to share their ball with you when yours gets punctured. Surely we all learnt that around the age of five?

I think that Britain is better off staying out of any European bail-out plans. (It can't stay out completely because the IMF is involved).

Everyone was gob smacked at the weekend by the size of the funds made available to stabilize the eurozone but already there are concerns that it will be nowhere near enough. Britain has its own problems, it doesn't need Greece's, Spain's and Portugal's too.

          Seconded.

Anyway, part of the core problem with the euro is that countries in it (Greece) can't react in ways to protect themselves from the fallout. We can.

Pound drops, our manufacturing sector which just recorded it's best 1/4 in decades gets even stronger. Soon we'll be a manufacturing powerhouse!

WGAF what some frog says, he can't even get the people of the fcking country right - it's not english (yet) it is the UK.

European Banks Now Feverishly Betting Against Euro, As Bailout Fails, Gold Surges

(according to unnamed sources). Sounds almost believable though.

If anyone has followed my posts you'll see I predicted there would be multiple bailouts.

The bailouts will continue until there is no longer any money.

                Enjoy!

These problems are linked - considering that Britain is in the same league with those countries debt wise, it seems idiotic to snub small donation to the fund that might be used to help yourself - it's like fire insurance really, and Liebor Govt decided to save money on it whilst house is already smoking.

Do come on AtW, whenever has Europe ever come to Britains aid?

If we did need any and had indeed paid in to all these scams then the French would turn round and say get stuffed anyway.
