I switched off Question Time after a short while last night. Even Melanie Phillips, uber whinger extraordinaire, who seems to never have been happy about anything that’s ever happened in her lifetime, was out-whinged by Mehdi Hasan, a whining lefty from the ‘New Statesman’ (which could be better named ‘Old tulipsack’), who started accusing the LibDems of betraying the cause of the left and putting the oh-so hated tories into power.

What is it with the Left? Having seen the arrogance of Gordon, we now see their condescending attitude to a party they obviously feel doesn’t have a right to exist, and their condescending attitude to members of the public who voted for their choice of representative.

They think they have a right to the support of anyone to the left of Call-me-Dave, without actually having to listen to anyone’s opinions. Simon Hughes rather diplomatically explained how the LibDems found they could deal with the Conservatives more easily than with Labour; perhaps this is the heart of the matter; conservatives are prepared to talk and exchange views in an adult fashion, while too many people on the left want to take the ‘anti-tory coalition’ for granted.

What makes Labour think that they have the right to support from the LibDems?

Where does this idea come from that Liberalism is somehow closer to socialism than to conservatism? It isn’t; Liberals and Conservatives share a lot of ideas about civil and personal liberties which are much more important than the short term practicalities of economics.

Well there you have it; it was ‘Mehdi Hasan’. An absolutely third rate dickhead.

What really pisses me off is the interminable ‘anti-tory’ attitude that really borders on bigotry. I heard some interviews with disgruntled voters on the radio and more than one said ‘I won’t vote conservative because I hate tories’. How pathetic. It’s one thing to hate Nazis or Islamic terrorsits, but hating people who are not trying to kill you, don’t want to stick you in gas chambers, but simply have a different opinion on matters of fiscal and legislation policies is a form of bigotry just as bad as racism or hatred of people’s religious beliefs.

Happily it seems mssrs Clegg, Hughes and Cable are rather more thoughtful than many people on ‘the left’.

Yes indeed. I could not believe how many times I thought "That Simon Hughes is making a lot of sense". Twas a new experience that took some getting used to.
I also enjoyed how gutted that slimy little creep Hasan was that the LibDems have effectively kicked his party into the long grass for the next 5 years.
