    Are you a proper contractor?

Like the mercenary, money hungry, Sasguru.

Or just biding your time until the dream permy gig comes along?

Is the latter just deluding themselves? Or the former?

    Poll follows.

Yep, die hard. Will never go perm. Permies are just shareholders biatches.

        I've become more mellow.

As soon as I get shot of the shop. I probably will settle down into a longer term perm role in Sales Operations and move towards a Directors position.

I can't stand the idea of being in the same place for more that 2 years max.
                Don't like office politics
Don't like reviews, or any HR paperwork.
                Don't like budgets.

Dream contract, dream job does not exist.
Let me refine that, you may get a dream contract/job, but it will not last for ever. Things will change over time (new manager, new permie, new team) and one morning (sooner than you hoped) you wake up, feel sick at the idea of spending another day in that office, and decide the first thing you will do when you get in, is go on Jobserve.
                Fiscal nomad it's legal.
