Becoming a godfather this Sunday :)

It will be over in Belfast at a Catholic church.

I am not a catholic, so no idea what to expect - even if they will accept my application to become a godfather out of the faith!

Erm, I don't think they will let you be Godfather if you aren't catholic .... has the child got a few potential Godparents lined up?

Probably not - I was unable to become a godparent of my niece.

I'd persuade the parents to nominate a backup just in case.

Not for the kid. I'd call it a lucky escape

How do they know? Is there some test or secret handshake that only a Catholic knows?

In my day the God Parent would buy the child a bible a give it away at the service, but that was C of E. For Catholics; I think is the same but with an added Jesus nailed to the cross trinket. A pocket guide on how to deal with priest abuse would also be handy.

I suppose they'd ask to see your baptism certificate.

Or you could just lie...not sure that'd make you a great role model for the child in that case though.

When my cousin made her first holy communion (age 7) - I bought her a cross and chain... she gave me one specific though "Don't buy me one with a dead body on!!"
