    Forum Fixes

    Just a quick post to inform those of you who never go anywhere but General that some fixes have been rolled out tonight: details at this post in the "Release Schedule" thread

    As always, if you encounter any problems or notice anything that still needs sorting out, add it to Forum Feedback. It's also important to mention what browser you're using: if in doubt and you're on Windows, the "Help" menu will have an "About..." entry that will let you know, Macs have the same thing on the "{Application name}" menu (in bold at top left next to the Apple menu, e.g. "Safari"), and Linux users should provide a link to the Ant script they used to build the browser from source

    It would be appreciated though if you could have a look through that thread and, if the thing you want to report is already mentioned there, rest assured that it's On The List.

    If in doubt, report it anyway; I'd rather have duplicate reports that turn out to be the same problem than let something slip through the cracks.

    Another point worth mentioning: some browsers and/or configurations can be very aggressive about holding on to older versions of files (which is supposed to save time) even when new ones are available from the server. This can mean that a browser will insist on showing you stuff using styling information from yesterday, even though it's now today and the styles have changed (I'm looking at you, WebKit). If you see things stay the same when they're supposed to be different, try the following:
    • Internet Explorer: hold down the Ctrl key whilst pressing F5 or clicking on the reload icon in the toolbar;
    • Firefox: Hold the Ctrl and Shift keys whilst pressing R (Command and Shift on a Mac) or hold down the Shift key whilst clicking the "Reload" icon in the toolbar;
    • Safari and Chrome: Hold down the Shift key whilst clicking the "Reload" icon (on Safari 3 or less, hold down the Command key instead);
    • Opera: Press F5, or hold down the Shift key whilst clicking the "Reload" icon in the toolbar;
    • Other browsers: have a look here.

    Incidentally, that business of Firefox wanting Shift-and-reload while IE wants Ctrl-and-reload goes way back to the days of Internet Explorer 3 and Netscape Navigator 2, and is to do with different user interface conventions on Unix and Microsoft systems: I was having to remember which was which back in 1996, and I sometimes still forget which is which today

      These forum fixes are taking longer than the Iraq war!

      Least with Iraq though, we know at some point the troops will come home!

      You know what they say about assumptions!
