          That is correct. Both VW and Mercedes have pursued volume production at the cost of quality. Take a look at reliability figures and you will see that Skoda (owned by VW) is now more reliable than VW. VW and Mercedes are also suffering from premature rusting so you need to be very careful what you buy s/h.
