The Sun: 150 paedos in your school

AT least 150 convicted paedophiles are working in schools, The Sun has discovered. We uncovered the shock figure last night as Education Secretary Ruth Kelly battled to save her skin over the scandal of pervert teachers. Kelly yesterday admitted she and her ministers cleared five sex offenders to work in schools in just 13 months. That’s the same number as were cleared by ministers in all the EIGHT YEARS since Labour came to power.

The scandal emerged as Education Secretary Ms Kelly admitted to MPs that 88 perverts had not been banned from classrooms — or had been lost in the system. Only a handful are feared to have returned to teaching. But SEPARATE figures disclosed to The Sun reveal a more shocking threat to our kids. A conservative estimate is that at least 150 paedophile teachers are in the nation’s classrooms. All are perverts convicted before 2000 and given partial bans. Because they had a lust for boys, they were allowed to carry on working with GIRLS — or vice versa.

All will be subjected to new investigations led by Sir Roger Singleton. Their names are among 4,045 on the Education Department’s discredited List 99 — which the public had been led to believe barred sex offenders outright from working with kids.

Yesterday embattled Ms Kelly was backed by Tony Blair as she pledged to close loopholes in the system. She declared: “Nobody who is convicted or cautioned for child sex offences should be allowed to teach in schools.” Shadow Education Secretary David Willetts demanded: “So why has this Government done so for the last eight years?” Ms Kelly said that of the 88 perverts, 32 were never put on the schools blacklist — despite being on the Sex Offenders Register. A huge probe is under way to find if any are still working.

Thirteen perverts are under investigation after being given the green light by officials to work in classrooms but it is not known if they are teaching. Others won permission to continue working — like PE teacher Paul Reeve, who was caught viewing child porn, and maths master William Gibson, a convicted child molester.

Ah the delicious irony of it all. Better hope the editor of The Sun hasn't got any back copies in his desk with pictures of a 16/17 year old Sam Fox in them. Under current laws that is "possession of child pornography" which should be a nice little 10 years on the sex offenders' register. In fact, I think I might call the old bill right now, as a rightly concerned citizen...

I expect someone will, quite rightly, make a successful challenge to this under human rights' legislation.

For example, I am a 16 year old red-blooded lad. I have consensual sex with my 15 year old girlfriend. Her parents find out about it and are none too pleased and complain to the police. To keep them quiet, the old bill caution me for "assault on a minor". That's a mandatory 10 years on the sex offenders' register (which means, for instance, I have to inform the police before I go on holiday, amongst many other things) and (now) a lifetime ban from working with children as I am deemed a danger to children.

Oh, and the added bonus is, if I am ever in the news for anything The Sun will have my picture on the front page as a known pervert and kiddie fiddler.

Still, as Ruth Kelly said when interviewed by John Humphrys this morning, "it's what the public and every parent in particular wants".

The Sun were merely quoting from their subscription list.

Hold it, Tex. That's 88 people on the sex offenders' register, who are not necessarily paedophiles (see example above). Don't fall for the media hysteria.

I notice in the Telegraph it says, "it emerged last night that thousands of overseas teachers in British schools face less stringent checks." Not to worry then. If this dries up demand we can start shipping in cheaper sex offenders from overseas.

This is crazy. There are people are being cautioned for the most stupid things. It makes people paranoid to being anywhere near kids, in case some twisted do-gooder reports them for some imagined "abuse" (whatever that means).
