I've read all our books and we have little room for more, especially since we rent and it was enough of a pain packing last time! I thought I'd take a little look at electronic book readers, and wondered if people here have any experience?
The obvious option is a dedicated book reader like the Kindle. The fact it's designed to look more like paper than a computer screen is a big factor since I dislike reading on the computer, but the proprietary closed-source issue is a factor since you'd hate to spend £100s on a library and then lose it if you later bought another device... on the other hand I don't want to read free scanned books which look like a secretary just scanned the book haphazardly on their photocopier!
The Nook is in direct competition but seems a little new right now, any thoughts?
And then the iPad markets itself as a reader, but I'm not convinced. Other than price, it's a normal screen which implies battery life and ease-on-the-eye might be compromised.
Are there other things out there? And while a open-source platform is nice in theory, do you really benefit from a platform on which every book is custom-formatted/prepared for the device (i.e the Kindle)?
Also, can you read them in the bath (serious question) in any safe kind of way?
