    Budget Thread

    May as well start one.

First off, he seemed to be pleased to say that our debt would stop growing by 2014. Is that right?

Just in time for the singularity. So, one way or the other, yes.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

oh wait, he's hiding behind the chancellor. How appropriate

I am just waiting for him to say that IR35 was a pile of tulipe and we are going back to the old way of doing things.

Then again, I won't hold my breath...
Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!

Is that when PCs are due to become as smart as humans, and then take off exponentially, designing ever better versions of themselves in a faster and faster "lawnmower man" style?

Not much sign of it so far

I am waiting for him to say that inheritance tax will be abolished, thus letting wealth "cascade down the generations" ( © John Major).

Not holding my breath on that either ...

2 years public sector pay freeze.

              It's going to get nasty.

Can't see what all the fuss is about - just topped £110 billion saved - VAT had to go to 20% but kept Defence & Law & Order at 0% to deal with the aftermath
Certain more can be cut from the "other" of general government expenditure, recreation, culture, religion, agriculture, and industry

                simples
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Pay freeze for two years on all public sector workers earning over £21k. Small fixed increase on those under.

Big deal. A freeze is hardly anything to cry about if you keep your job. A real-term loss due to inflation, but not too painful.
