    Figs

There be a fig tree (or two) locally.

Does anyone know if the figs (such as they are) are likely to ripen sufficiently to be edible?

Depends on whether the birds haven't eaten the budding fruits. (as the blighters have on mine).

You should have something late august.

Strange, was thinking the same last night. I have two trees but they are not producing figs. The leaves are really good looking and seem to be self cleaning.

And it's got loads of figs on it.

They're green & I don't know how to tell if they're ripe or not.

According to one site, it's when the "eye" opens & a little drop of sugar appears.

Since I walk past it every day, I shall keep an out.
They're ripe when they've turned brownish purple. Or indeed purplish brown. Green figs are not ripe.

Mind you, don't expect southern European levels of ripeness in England.

Sorry, I'm not talking to myself; I just still can't get used to these reply buttons.
