Won't someone think of the poor agents?

IT recruiters warn over migration caps
The government's plan to cap the number of non-EU economic migrants allowed into the UK has attracted criticism from IT recruiters, who claim some skills cannot be sourced here.

The Home Office is to hold a consultation on the plans. In the meantime an interim limit of 24,100 work visas has been announced.

IT recruitment firm IntaPeople today warned a permanent cap could hamper efforts to fill some jobs.

“There is a concern that a cap like this could prevent exceptionally skilled migrants from outside the EU entering the country," said operations director Phil Handley.

Perhaps someone can ask IntaPeople (Telephone: +44 (0)2920 252 500) to list those skills that have an alleged shortage. There statement seems to be completely opposited to what whas said on the news this morning that highly skilled IT graduated have difficulty in gaining employment.

If you believe any of the spin in the meeja you're daft.

What really decides the matter is who gives the biggest bung to the ministers responsible.

I'll give you all a clue: it ain't you lot.

          Yeah, like that'll happen.

As soon as you cast your vote you stopped being of any value to the government.

Companies want to get stuf done for minimum wage, not a living wage, and the fact that contractors are generally perceived as overpaid tax dodgers doesn't help.

The argument about graduates not being able to find jobs is spurious, most have them don't have any skills other than skinning up and world of warcraft.

That's still two more than the lower end of the agent pool.

And yet we all started without skills and are now models of skilled professionals.

And some of us aren't even graduates.

There is not a skills shortage. What there is, from an employers perspective, is a shortage of skills at the price they want to pay. ie. feck all! It's simple supply and demand as the employer wants to import cheap labour where the supply is plentyful and the cost is low.
