    Private Health Insurance

I am thinking of taking private health insurance, getting close to the 30 and it takes 2 weeks to get an appointment to see my doc.

Anyone recommend one and the costs.

Was looking at BUPA, seems okay.

Private Health Insurance won't let you see a GP as far as I know ...

sasguru is right I think. I've had Private Health Insurance before, and it has nothing to do with getting an appointment to see a GP.
What its for is getting an operation done quicker by going private. So, you go to your GP as usual; and he refers you to a specialist. Its either a NHS referal where the waiting list is long; or a Private referal (invariably to the same specialist) where the wait is much shorter.
Once seen by the specialist, you then go on the waiting list for the operation - NHS lists are long, Private are not.

      Thats it basically.

Sorry for the confusion, it was in reference too how long I wait to see the doc with minor aliments. Therefore if something serious happens and I need to be referred, I do not want to be waiting for 6 months to see a specialist, nor do I want to pay excess £500 for the likes of a MRI scan.

YOu can speed up your path through the NHS by paying for a private consultaion (100 -> £150) with the specialist you would see under NHS.

Doing this will let you leapforg the queue for a first appointment and take you straight into the queue for treatment.
