Disgraceful it was.

What counts as a computer?

Does the Ipod/Iphone count? what about the Blackberry and the that rubbish Suduko thing I got given last year? Then there's the PVR and the camera, if I add in all the electronic junk a family of six has I reckon I'm close to matching the entire computing power of the Peruvian space agency.

WHS

2 laptops
PS3
Wii
Sky+ box
smart phones
PSP
Network enabled laser printer
+ all the electronic wizardry in 2 modern cars

feck it, even a modern games controller is probably a computer in its own right!

My wife and son have their own laptops. One of my daughters has my old desktop. I have a laptop, desktop and SAP server that belong to myco, plus one laptop that belongs to clientco. So that's seven.

Also smartphone, wii and Dreambox 500c, (digital receiver) which runs linux.

My son has an iPod touch - so eleven in total, I guess.

I think AtW is going to win this one. Or possibly Ardesco.

We've got:

iMac
3xlaptops (one personal one each + a work one)
File & web server
Netbook
Then there's the consoles (PS3, Xbox, Wii)

Then a couple of unconnected NAS boxes, a network printer, and I think there's an old laptop or two in the loft.

The 3 major current consoles. PS3, Wii, Xbox360
4 laptops (1 kids, 1 private, 2 work)
1 working gaming desktop, 1 old but functional desktop (internet only really)
2 iphones

I was going to put 3, but I've got 4 more in cupboards.

Time for another clearout.

I should have posted some rules at the start.

Dedicated single purpose devices like washing machines, fuel injection systems, printers, routers, sky boxes, PVRs, digital synthesizers, GPS units and so on should be excluded. It has to be a general purpose computer.

PCs & Macs should obviously be included, as should "home computers" such as the BBC Micro, ZX81, Amiga, Atari ST (and yes, the MK14), and of course other general purpose computers such as suns, crays and PDP-11s.

Devices such as NAS appliances, smart phones & consoles are more difficult to adjudicate as they fall somewhere between the two camps. I will need to think about it some more.

And what an geeky, IT nerd one it is too. :wink
A more interesting question would be "what do you use your computers for?"

Anyway:
IMAC
2 working up-to-date laptops
2 working but ancient laptops
1 netbook
Some 80s home computer in the loft.

IMac used for playing about with statistical/mathematical models when I get inspired+some coding+photo/video stuff. Laptops for surfing at home. Netbook for wi-fi/working when travelling.

But I've still got an Silicon Graphics Indy which I've not booted up in years but couldn't bear to lose.

This poll is biased towards people with children.

I have 1 laptop.
My husband has 3 macs and an iPad (nerd!!)
We have a ps3, sky+, xbox, nintendo ds, 2..sorry 3 iPhones.

if I had kids, they would also each have ps3, laptop, ipPhone - they'd be right spoilt little sheisters!

And we'd probably also get sky multiroom.

Then obsiouly, we have 2 robot hoovers (which come with SDK, so technically are computers), sat nav, oooh we have a server in the office with Oracle Apps installed on it...
I think thats it...

Just the usual really!

My Nokia N95 calls itself a computer rather than a phone. It doesn't tell you how to make a phone call until page 90-odd of the manual. So it & the iPod touch both got counted.

I don't consider my N95 a computer. It's not really been much of a phone either since the day it made a funny smell and died.

Salesman; 'what do you want to do with it?'

MTT; 'talk to people on the phone'

Salesman; 'are there any particular features you might need'

MTT; 'yes, the ability to make and recieve phone calls'

Salesman; 'do you want bluetooth?'

MTT; 'no, I have a collection of white teeth which are quite adequate for biting and chewing my food'

Salesman; 'do you not want to receive e-mails and transfer data to and from your PC?'

MTT; 'no, not really, I just want to talk to people on the phone; is that really so difficult?'

Salesman; 'would you like a particular colour? Do you want a clamshell model or a foldy outy or a straightforward model?'

MTT; 'a cheap one that makes phone calls'

Salesman; 'but that's not good for your image Sir'

MTT; 'sod that, I just want to make phone call; it's not as if the people I'm talking to can see me'

Salesman; 'oh, but they can if you have a built in webcam'

MTT; 'all the more reason why I don't want one of those'

Salesman; 'well, we have this one (the most basic Nokia); will that do?'

MTT; 'Yes'

Salesman; 'would you like a belt holder and headphones with that'

MTT; 'no, just sell me a ******* telephone'

Salesman; 'there's no need to get angry about it'

bla bla bla bloody bla

Lawyer friends used to have to search high and low for phones that didn't have integrated cameras - because mobile phones are allowed in court but cameras aren't. I expect they've given up now.
