... it''s all relative you know. Poetry and all that jazz.

Relativity

I like relativity and quantum theories
because I don't understand them

and they make me feel as if space shifted about
like a swan that can't settle,
refusing to sit still and be measured;

and as if the atom were an impulsive thing

always changing its mind.

Lawrence really was a master of free verse. Makes you think though, if atoms behave predictabily how come we have seemingly random thoughts?

Who said atoms behave predictably?

Who said atoms behave predictably?

Aye.

And stop it with confusing me with what day of the week it is. I have enough trouble keeping a grip on such things as it is; I don't need anyone else deliberately causing even more uncertainty.:tantrum:

Whatever you do - keep away from threaded broken time machine. With ideas like this there is no end to the trouble that might [have] happen[ed]. :eek

Methinks the ancient Greek Thales would have liked Atoms to have done so - but in this pesky Universe they dont seem to do what they ought to do ...

When will Threaded upgrade to a Model 40 ? Im not surprised he's had problems ...

Each Day just goes so fast
I turn around its past
A LifeTime is so short
A New one cant be bought ...

Ok i'm really out of my depth when we get to Quantum stuff but as I recall from chemistry

Na + H2O = NaOH +H always (nice fireworks too)

Indeed most of our industrial and pharmacutical processes rely on atoms behaving in a predictable way.

You're right quantum effects happen at a sub-atomic level.
Penrose in the "Emperors New Mind" argues that there is a fundamental gap in our knowledge of physics that might explain issues like free-will - but quantum effects are most probably involved.

Interesting .

Perhaps further Quantum knowledge might one day lead to Einstein's goal of Physics "To read the mind of God'" ...and Henry Frisch's dream "... to help find all those missing socks.''

PS The fundamental things apply - as Time Goes By ...

There is a fundamental gap in your knowledge of most things that don't involve the Teletubbies though sg. But we wouldn't have you any other way!!
