Somewhere in the 650,000,000,000,000,000 gallons of water.

3,250,000,000 parts water to 1 part oil.

    Needle in a haystack.

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

The chemical tulip they put into water tied up oil underwater. Allegedly.

You could gather up the water and sell it as homeopathic petrol.

Can't help but think it would be useful to know whether it is between the middle and the top or the middle and the bottom. A few more iterations like that and we'd locate it no problem.

I think crude is mostly composed of fractions that are less dense than sea water (it floats), though I believe there are mechanisms that can cause it to sink. Were BP spraying it with sand?
