Swede faces world-record $1m speeding penalty

BBC News - Swede faces world-record $1m speeding penalty

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, anyone disagree?
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Anyone who's ever been to Switzerland knows how strict they are, so the guy deserves what he gets. He could have gone to Germany and been OK or gone to Italy and bribed the copper. Alternatively, he could have hired a race track for a day and really driven hard.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Nope. He is clearly an idiot if he thought he could get away with it.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Under Swiss law, the level of fine is determined by the wealth of the driver and the speed recorded.
In which case, it seems fair... crippling someone financially is a bad idea but stripping wealth as a punishment for such blatant idiocy seems reasonable.

He should have taken the autobahn to Vevey. Fewer plod and no cameras.

Or used the autoroute Francais. €90 euro fixed penalty when I got pulled, although I was going 100km/h slower than him.

Can we refrain from using the word "fair" where possible - that's so old nu-liebourish...

I agree though, fine is appropriate and he is an idiot. But he's probably so loaded that this is mere pocket change to him.

Fastest speeding ticket is here - going 272 mph in a 75 mph zone in a Koenigsegg!

Were the people from the Guinness book of records there to meet him? He just got the production car land speed record too.

The report claims it was a Merc SLS AMG, The AMG bit means it doesn't qualify as a production car.

And the GBoR folks won't include stuff that's illegal.
