    Places to stay: Glasgow

Can anyone suggest a reasonable area to stay? I have an interview there next week for a contract.

(I've recently dumped my 'picky' attitude for an immediate new contract ).

The southside is meant to be nice.

I was mugged in Glasgow and left unconscious so try and avoid the place if at all possible. If I absolutely must go to Glasow, I stay in Giffnock.
I got a good rate at the Holiday Inn, [or was it the Hilton] at the airport when I was at ECOC 2005 conference

If Irvine is close enough. I can recommend an excellent small B&B. I am presently staying at an Etap and it is fine, Glasgow has one. Etap is cheap and clean, all I need.

I just looked at the Glasgow wiki page. All the areas mentioned including the areas stated as 'affluent' sound dodgy.

I just moved out of Giffnock. Just down the road though.

Close to the city the West End is poshest, but it has a student population around the uni which I avoid now. Parking is a nightmare. South side gets richer the more you go out culminating in nice areas like Giffnock, Clarkston and the Mearns, these areas were all dry once upon a time (honest!) and the only places you can drink now are hotels.

Avoid any new builds with vigour, they have been placing housing tenants in them.

If you want names of places going from posh down where you could expect to get somewhere to stay without buying and are all decent, Dowanhill, Park District, Kelvinbridge, Anniesland, Shawlands.

                  Hyndland as well.
