The "be nice to SY01" thread

I realise this is a "mememe" but to be honest I have had such a bad day I just don't care.

As every IT bod should I keep religious backups. I do, religiously.

My main system has died. An Ubuntu 64 bit server. I have an operating system image of about 6 months ago and regular data backups. Some ubuntu patches proper fooked the machine.

Point 1) Why oh why oh frakin why did I choose Ubuntu
Point 2) Why oh why oh frakin why did I choose to use this machine for my VMs?
Point 3) Why oh why oh frakin why did I not get myself a decent laptop to run the VMs?

Now I have a dead box which means I cannot invoice, code, or do pretty much anything.

All my own fault, but I can't help wondering why Ubuntu is so ******* tulip that you cannot trust the update mechanism.

I have grown as a business, and been accepting more and more work, and neglected my infrastructure. I now have a healthy bank balance and infracstructe in tatters.

    Learn from my mistakes, seriously.

You stupid frick.... Nah only joking

Does anyone use online storage/backup? I had this issue a while back. Videos/images/software/accounts.

I had a portable back up system that failed when I reimaged my main server. I have never been so upset. Had to spend another £150 buying software to recover it.

Ive been thinking of using an online hosting/back up vendor.

@MF: I do use online storage - Jungledisk. It is my saving grace. Also I have a 1Tb external disk for images. I can cobble this back together, but I'll be buggered if I'm ever ever ever using Ubuntu again. Time to stump up some cash for Redhat.

@Clippy: Thanks for some much needed levity
