... what can you say ?

Well I thought Id seen a thing or two - but this was a wee surprise.

Chap from Belgium who had recently retired from where I work - has been found dead in the Dominica Republic - his body had been mutliated and then burned - this was due to the fury of a 25 year old lass who paid a gang of local thugs to take him out whilst she would live on his pension via his bamk card.

She managed to bungle up the operation was nabbed by the Dominica Polica and has apparently pled guitly.

    There you have it.

Sorry to hear about that Alf, must have come as a bit of a shock.

Heard of a few of these sort of cases in the W Indies recently. Not a good place for someone with a bit of cash to be planning to retire to. Heard one story on the radio about a couple who were attacked at their home for the same kind of reason, the intruder thought they would have great wealth to steal and could take over the house. How the two of them survived, from the description of the attack given, I really don't know.

About ten years back a female friend of mine started telling me about how there had been a murder of a girl in the car park she parks in. So they had started going to their cars in pairs.

Then there was another attack a month later locally but not fatal and then another serious attack a few months later. All of the girls were prostitutes.

Next time I spoke to her I asked her about it and she then went 'Oh I forgot to mention, they arrested one of our accountants on the next floor down for it. Religious nutter who'd wife had left him.

      He got life.

I met a Frenchman who had been attacked in his farm in the Belgian Congo. The attackers couldn't believe that he didn't have a huge stash of cash hidden away.

He somehow managed to persuade them they he really didn't have any cash, but it was pretty harrowing nonetheless.

              FTFY

Certainly 12 years ago I had already been aware for some time of Jamaicans retiring back home after working in the UK and being robbed of everything within days.

Norman Beaton (the owner of Desmon's, the barbers) died in 1994 and it was around then I first heard of it.

When Mrs RC & I went on a West Indies cruise in the late 1990s, it was referred to as happening frequently in Jamaica and sometimes in Barbados.
