    Biofuels

How long is this environmental nonsense going to go on:

The Fed is fuelling the catastrophe of fast rising raw material prices - Telegraph

So to "save the planet" we chop down rainforests, for biofuels.

...oh and don't forget building a duplicate Electricity generating network of windmills.
    I'm alright Jack

Suddenly EU agro policy designed to keep capacity to make food inside Europe isn't so stupid after all?

I hear the UK doesn't have the capacity to feed itself. Not entirely sure whether this is a myth though.

Perhaps we should ask the people. Starvation or a planet 0.2 deg C warmer in 500 years time?

Why support peasants who grow food when you can have bankers who ... err, what do they do exactly?

Not to mention the fact that these biofuel crops take up valuable farming land that could otherwise be used for growing food.

Fewer food crops = less food = increased food costs to the consumer.

Worth pondering next time your jaw drops at the supermarket checkout.

As long as there are too many people in the world.

Too many people means that there is no solution to shortages. Use biofuels instead of conventional, and you cause other problems, including shortage of food. Eat more fish and the seas are emptied. Grow intensively, and biodiversity is reduced, disease increased, and risk of famine increased.

Too many people. Few will face it but that is the real problem.

I have been using VO and wvo fuel for 12 years. Speculators are now controlling the price. What should be happening is that EU set-aside farm land should be used to grow bio fuels. Why pay farmers not to grow food when they could use the land for biofuel?

Nah, it just keeps millions of African farmers dirt poor, so that we can keep chucking aid money at them.

                  Win-win!

Though I do admire Bill Gates for his philanthropic activities, deep down he must know he's prolonging and therefore exasperating the worlds problems.

                    What an evil bastard.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
