Hmmm, how does this square with the "IT Skills Shortage" bollocks that's cureently being spouted?

Easy. There is a shortage of well-trained willing workers, with in-depth experience current right up to last week of exactly the tools and applications that an employer wants people to work on next; preferably gained with the biggest direct competitor, and who will work for low wages. That's what "skills shortage" means.

Failing those characteristics, employers will settle for low wages and current experience. Intelligence, education, imagination and willingness to work and achieve are not attributes that qualify people for work.

Exactly new graduates are almost completely useless, sadly, but if an experienced guy stops work for a few weeks, you might be able to get some low quality work out of them.

What you need are some huge public sector conntracts, so graduates can spend a couple of years churning out complete cr*p, and then you start to produce some useful developers.

As one poster said 'willingness to work'. The British believe themselves better than other races and therefore lots of jobs are 'below' graduates, coupled with a 'i'm owed something I am, it's my right' attitude that is so ingrained in British culture due to the welfare system.

So skills shortage = willing to do work better than the British and at a lower cost.

The problem arises because after hocking themselves up to the eyeballs in debt attaining their Degree, the cheeky blighters expect to be well enough paid to pay back these loans AND still be able to have a passable lifestyle as well.
That very rapidly becomes an issue for employers who can hire Bobs to bugger up the same work for the price of a roomshare and a few bowls of Cockroach Korma.

Where are the Bobs getting their skills and experience.

Bobs are sold in this country based on their cost and qualifications, experience is rarely mentioned.

Bobs tend to be sold in as a package as opposed to individuals. They have skills honed in body shop consultancies and then get shipped over.

When choosing offshore teams I have been given a tiered choice of consultants at different prices. Master data stewards start from about 5k

Good to see 'IT' up there with 'Meeja Studies' in the degree quality stakes!
