Breaking news - iranian justice system won't stone female for adultary...

    They'll hang her instead ffs!

Authorities in Tehran, Iran, have given the go-ahead to execute a woman who initially was sentenced to death by stoning, according to an activist working on her behalf.

However, what method will be used to execute Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani is unclear, said Mina Ahadi, spokeswoman for the International Committee Against Stoning. The execution could happen as soon as Wednesday, she said, citing information received from a source in Tabriz, Iran, who is close to Ashtiani's family.

Ashtiani initially was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. The Iranian government later said she was also convicted of murdering her husband, but her lawyer and family dispute that.

A letter from Tehran was delivered to the prison in Tabriz where Ashtiani is being held three days ago, Ahadi said, giving the go-ahead for Ashtiani's execution.

Ashtiani, 43 and a mother of two, drew international attention when she was sentenced to death by stoning. She concedes that she was convicted of adultery, as initially reported, but says she was acquitted of murder. "The man who actually killed my husband was identified and imprisoned, but he is not sentenced to death," she said in August.

Which part specifically? Capital punishment of any form? The death penalty? The ways they carry out the killing? Or the crimes they apply it to?

        Moral question of the day...

a)Should issues relating to relationships, i.e incest and adultery, have anything to do with the legal system?

b)Is it a sign of a more civilised, or more screwed up, society that adultery is now considered nothing serious and the idea of capital punishment for it strikes many as repulsive?

Perhaps they can twin Iranian Islam with Texan evangelical Christianity.

According to the timeline, she's already been lashed and tortured, with more lashes to come for being photographed without a hoodie, even though the photo was of someone else.

2006 Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani lashed 99 times for "adultery" in

            Iran, charges she denies

November 2008 she is sentenced to death by stoning for the same offense due to process called "judicial wisdom"

July 2010 Protests begin about her fate

July 12th Iran says the stoning sentence is not for adultery but for the murder of her husband

August in a confession on state TV - which many believe to be forced - she confesses to complicity in her husband's murder

September 3rd News emerges she has been sentenced to 99 additional lashes for allowing the dissemination of a picture purportedly of her (although of another woman) not wearing the hijab

You need to look at what is considered "adultary" there - just being seen in presense of other men who are not relatives/husband can be deemed as such, hardly "adultary" in western sense and hardly deserving death sentence.

But that sounds like police incompetence and brutality the world over, if you focus on individual cases you can find examples in ANY country. We get them in the UK and US too, where people in power abuse it to hurt others.

Is that the case with this lady? Or are you making the leap that people get sentenced to death (rather than lynched or whatever) because they consider adultery to include those definitions?

BTW, why don't you turn spell-checker on in Firefox?
