21st Century for most - 17th for some!

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will give Javier Hernandez a religious head's up before their Champions League visit to Rangers.

The People says Chicharito could be forced to abandon his pre-match Catholic prayer when Manchester United face Rangers in Glasgow on Wednesday week.

Deeply religious Hernandez – nicknamed Chico – kneels on the centre spot and prays *before kick-off in every game he starts. But it is believed United boss Ferguson – a former Rangers player – will advise the 22-year-old to ditch his ritual at Ibrox.

Rangers fans have already vowed on websites to target Hernandez if he goes through his normal routine and that will worry Ferguson who is anxious for United’s visit to pass peacefully.

Rangers officials say there is no question of them banning Hernandez from his usual pre-match routine, which he started in his native Mexico.

But he runs the risk of antagonising anti-Catholic Rangers supporters if he is included in boss Ferguson’s line-up when the teams meet at Ibrox.
What is the betting that Ferguson does not have Hernandez in his starting line-up then?

I'd ban the All Blacks from doing the "Haka" too.

Sung by the spectators? How is that relevant?

Maybe all the Rangers fans will kick up a fuss and the whole dirty lot of them will be kicked out, an the game will be forfeit. Serve them right.
Is this a protestant/catholic thing? In which case praying is hardly anti-protestant... but still worth a friendly word in the guy's ear, I imagine it must be pretty terrifying playing in front of a nasty crowd actually.

Most definitely. And Ferguson will know all about it. Having realised his childhood dream of finally playing for his boyhood heroes, he was essentially blackballed and forced out of the Club for his marital indiscretion.............he married a Catholic.
Of course that was way back in the 1970s..............but some things have not moved on much. Even as recently as the 1990s, when Rangers finally succumbed and started signing catholic players with a view to them actually being first team players, they were advised against blessing themselves before running on to the pitch. Truly pathetic, but true for all that.
Now I am not going to suggest that Celtic do not have their own embarrassing elements, but their misdemeanours are more likely to be as a result of misguided political views rather than sectarian ones.
Anyway, the good people of Manchester have already experienced the "high jinks" that the Rangers support are capable of, after the 2008 UEFA Cup Final riots. So I doubt there will be much to surprise them on show at Ibrox.

Why is worried?, its Rangers fans, being targeted by fat, alcoholic, thick degenerates isn't exactly something to worry about when you are an athletic young man.

It could get a bit alarming when you are surrounded by nearly 40000 of them though, particularly when a lot of them are dressed as blue chairs!!

Jock Stein would've sorted him out.
