    World Speed Record attempt

    Certainly a winning team up to now;

    BBC News - 1,000mph car project 'on track'

    And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

    Would be amazing actually witness it for real, to see something move that fast.

      How about making one of these for now?

      Perhaps that design could be made more aerodynamically efficient by containing the balloon inside the cardboard from a bog roll.

        Now that the pope approves a condom would be better choice. It's Lighter and more aerodynamic due to the lube.

          Strap a Rocketdyne J-2 to the cardboard platform, that should eliminate your concerns regarding (lack of) performance.

            I'm all for engineering endeavour but isn't trying to go fast on land a bit passé? The challenges of hypersonic flight are far more interesting IMO.
            Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

              A bit like tweed jackets; passé, but in a way, quite cool.

                Forget about hypersonic, it's about time we got Warp drive working
