But in a new report the Met Office said the reduced rate of warming can be easily explained by a number of factors. And indeed the true rate of warming caused by man made greenhouse gases could be greater than ever.

One of the major factors is pollution over Asia, where the huge growth in coal-fired power stations mean aerosols like sulphur are being pumped into the air. This reflects sunlight, cooling the land surface temperature.

Dr Vicky Pope, Head of Climate Change Advice, said pollution may be causing a cooling effect.

“A possible increase in aerosol emissions from Asia in the last decade may have contributed to substantially to the recent slowdown,” she said. “Aerosols cool the climate by reflecting the sunlight.”



So we can all have big V8 cars as long as Asia keeps building coal fired power stations to build the parts for them.

I heard on the news this morning that fossil fuel use worldwide is growing at 3% a year. That's exponential growth and that always ends badly and usually rather unexpectedly and suddenly. Keep breeding. Boomed.

The same could be said for physics for the last hundred years. The whole point of science is you don't make a theory and then leave it set in stone, you test it and if it doesn't behave as predicted you look to find why... maybe the idea is good but there are extra subtleties, maybe the whole thing doesn't fly.

Saying GW isn't happening simply because things don't match as expected is unscientific. It might not be, but it's a ferociously complicated many-value system.

A Devon smallholder has planted an olive grove with the aim of cashing in on global warming.
Mark Diacono, 39, has planted 120 trees on his 17-acre plot near Honiton in east Devon.

He is also growing almonds, apricots and persimmon and even plans to experiment with exotic paw paw.

Mr Diacono aims to bring in his first olive oil within the next seven years but just in case, he has planted an olive species used to frost and snow.

Environmental consultant Mr Diacono said the olive grove was a way of taking advantage of the climate change which was taking place.

The UK Climate Impacts Programme has said by 2080 the south-east of England could become on average 5C warmer in summer.

I'm very worried that the natural warming and cooling every 60 years will be interrupted by the effects of CO2, and we'll get static temperatures. This would be a disaster, causing dry areas to get drier, wet areas to get wetter, cold regions to become even colder and warm regions to get hotter.

The inside of your fridge is cold but the kitchen as a whole gets warmer.

My guess is that the UK is going to get very cold. On the plus side, the pension funding gap should go away and we might stop being tulip at winter sports.
