    Contracting At HSBC

Has anyone ever contracted at HSBC Canary Wharf ? If so what is the environment like ? Is it a recommended place to work ? How many hours is the working day for a contractor ?

    TIA.

8 hours. Although they now have a work-from-home policy of at least 1 day per week. Not sure if that applies to contractors.

Premises are OK, as long as you don't mind being 200 feet up in the air in the direct firing line of City airport. Wasn't for me, so I didn't stick it for long. Offices are OK, typical open plan stuff. Toilets are manic; never seemed to be able to find one that wasn't permanently Engaged.

A role there will look good on your cv, should you wish to stay in Banking.

I still work in the area, and think it's OK.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: Lift 'crush' is manic there, especially at lunchtime. If you are a claustrophobe, like me, you won't stick it long.

What hope is there when even a flash grade A office like HSBC Tower doesn't have enough bogs?! Every place I've worked at has been like this. And I've worked in some proper dumps.

I blame Sir Norman Foster. If it was me I'd design a large collection of luxury toilets and then fit some meeting rooms and work areas around the sides and call it an office.

This tells you more about the solidity of HSBC's trading positions than it does about the building design.

Wouldn't that be the same thing as just replacing everyone's chair with a commode?

Some impressive views from the conference rooms up at the top, floors 40-42ish IIRC. Also the lifts don't stop at floor 7, I was curious about this and managed to find the "secret way" onto it which was pretty cool. Enjoyed my time there a lot. HSBC pay crip rates though.

                  Plant floor I assume?

Not sure if it's HSBC, but apparently one of the banks in CW have such problems with cooling their machine room floors in the building that, if the outside air temp in the summer gets too hot, the only solution they have is to get on the roof and literally hose it down with cold water.

It's quite nice at this time of year to be able to get in to the building through the underground bit from the tube. I'm not at HSBC but next door and use the same undergound entrance
