An Englishman's home is his castle

Terrified Barratt homes founder recovering after masked raiders break into his mansion and steal gems worth £100,000

The multi-millionaire founder of Barratt homes is recovering after masked raiders burst into his home.

Property tycoon Sir Lawrie Barratt was at home when the three intruders entered his estate at Corbridge, Northumberland, and stole jewellery.

The raiders, one of whom police believe was armed with a crowbar, demanded valuables and helped themselves to items including a diamond necklace, earrings and a bracelet.

The total value of their haul could be as much as £100,000 with a diamond necklace that was taken valued at an estimated £30,000.

Police said the attack took place at around 5.45pm on Monday after the robbers breached the high gates that guard the estate and avoided an intercom security system.

Here is how this story should have really read:

"Two low life scumbags shot by good citizen using legally licensed firearm during attempted robbery of his house, £100k awarded for his role in reducing taxpayer's loss from crime".

They huffed and they puffed and they blew the front wall down!
