Any tips for changing a central heating pump?

My thermal fluid pump for our heated water radiator circuit has finally died. I have bought a new one and am sitting here with various spanners and screwdrivers waiting to flood the house and call a plumber.

Any advice? Do I need a chutney spoon or summat?

I think I should definately bleed the radiators afterwards.

I think you should be ok with a bowl and a couple of old towels.

Or failing that get central heating cover for ~ £13/month

You're a contractor. Get someone in to do it, FFS.

To give employment to the artisan.

        Hadn't thought of that, seriously.

Yes, close the shutoff valves either side of the pump before you replace it.

My dad did this for me and it worked a treat. It's actually really easy to do, and doesn't take long at all.

I've no idea how he did it though.

BTW we've also got British Gas cover for the central heating system. It really is good VFM.
