    H2G2 facing the axe.

    El Reg

Members of the h2g2 community consortium are in the market for someone to buy the site or donate some cash to the cause, after the BBC confirmed earlier this week that it was ending its 10-year hosting of Douglas Adams’ Real Guide to the Galaxy.
The Beeb is cutting the H2G2 site adrift in the wake of it's cost cutting exercise. A rescue plan is being formulated but they need help from anyone willing to contribute time, expertise or cash to the cause.

A few years back they axed the Get Writing forums - a real shame.

H2G2 was always way too vague about its aims and also quite complicated to submit articles to. Wiki totally eclipsed it and is a far more impressive tribute to DNA's ideas. Don't think many people will mourn H2G2.

I'd never heard of it TBO. It'll be a shame to lose all the facts and insights people have taken the trouble to contribute.

True, Wikipedia has become a much more extensive resource, even if it's not always reliable.

H2G2 has remained much closer to the spirit of it's namesake. You wont find articles on What To Do in the Face of Certain and Imminent Death on Wikipedia, and while Wiki's entry on Coffee Tables is certainly factually informative it does not convey the essence of what a coffee table really is in the same way as the Guide does.

Why does Wiki have this phrase tacked on to its name pretty much every single time it's mentioned? Is there any source which is always reliable?
