Side Effects - or rather, Backside Effects

Anybody else here on stuff like beta blockers, statins, blood thinners, ACE inhibitors, and all that malarkey?

They seem to be playing merry hell with my bowels, usually when I least expect it. Is that standard procedure? Does it become less unpredictable over time? Can anybody recommend a good dry cleaner? (I suspect I might need one soon if things carry on like this.)

I would ask a medical professional, but I prefer to leave them to deal with those who have serious problems. Therefore, the floor is open to the medical wisdom of CUK

Most medication, other than stuff you can get in the supermarket, will upset your digestive system to a degree. It can't be avoided.

Your body will adjust over time though.

      Hi Gonzo

I daresay you're right: I'll have to bide my time and stay within easy reach of the lavatory

      Still, things could be worse

How's it going in Upside-Downland Parva? Have they got a new series of Police 10-7 on the go yet?

        Hi there.

Life in upside-down land has its ups and downs.

My day-to-day quality of life is streets ahead of the day-to-day life I had in the UK.

However, getting myself into challenging and well-paid work is proving to be much much harder than I ever anticipated.

So I am doing a tulip job for tulip money but I live in one of the smartest parts of town and have a swimming-pool and that is not being subsidised by the UK contracting money that I bought over. (Our car and furniture purchases were but the day-to-day costs are not.) Try and make sense of that.

The TVNZ website reports that there will be a new series of Police Ten 7 in 2011.

There are entire divisions of the medical profession devoted to the bowels: give 'em a try, they'd love to help, I'm sure.

Certainly, the gastrointestinal specialist nurse I had to see for a few months a few years back was a fanatic in the subject. Told lots of anecdotes, too:

"Part of the training is understanding regional differences. Down South, if someone has to go to the loo more than twice a day, they go to the doctor with diarrhoea. Up North, if someone can't go to the loo three times a day they go to the doctor with constipation. The reality is, normal for you is whatever you train your system to do."

She made a difficult subject very interesting.

Jesus furkin Christ. That has got to be one of the worst Yahoo Answers sets I've seen so far, and the best of them was tulipe.

What was the question again? Oh yes.

Stick to a diet of real ale and kebabs, just as God intended. And just as poorly cats and dogs eat grass to flush them through, you should eat some of the garnish they put on the kebab. That pointless green stuff works like a scourer, apparently, and a little bit once in a while can be beneficial. Supposedly. Just don't overdo it or you'll turn into a girl, or something.

Actually, talking of real ale, I have found that home brew is an excellent solution for bowel irregularity. For some reason it makes things move that won't, and when they move too much it reigns things in.

Thinking about that made me realise there may be a home brew solution specific to your problem. SFW

(Will you ever forgive me for that, Nick?)

                  Nick,

I've got no idea what you're on. I'm on all sorts of stuff which all have pretty tulip side effects.

To combat the gastric saide effects and ensure I don't spend all day in the dry cleaners I was prescribed a proton pump inhibitor, specifically Omeprazole. Works for me. It's commonly used to combat gastric side effects, but for quite a few people it doesn't work. Of course it has its own side effects in some users which can be troublesome.

Just remember Nick, your bum has declared war on you, and in a war, things become expendable.
You carry about with you lots of things that you can, er, 'use', if push comes to shove.

                    socks
                    underrods
                    vest
                    recipts in pockets
fingers (if there is a sink nearby)
                    bottoms of shoes
                    five pound notes
turn coat inside out and use sleeves(do NOT wear coat afterwards)
                    bog roll

good luck with the bum thing
