    Local authority cuts

With councils up and down the land slashing front line services such as rural bus services and libraries, one can only hope that they've taken the axe to their armies of superfluous penpushers beforehand. I am specifically thinking of diversity officers, climate change officers and a whole legion of waste of space outreach workers.

I only raise the point because I can't help think that there is some political motivation behind these cuts - make it hurt so it reflects badly on the Tories.

People in lots of those jobs are earning <£15k in areas like the NE (one of the hardest hit IIRC). Putting them on benefits instead means they just go on benefits... in the NE the public sector is the only thing keeping people employed.
Not to mention, the NE needs its diversity officers

Our local authority are halving the staff for child services. the local youth clubs have been scaled down to once a week. The kids that used to go now hang around the streets and cause bother.

Maybe their parents should look after their own children?

So they are effectively 'working' for their dole money? The best thing to do in this situation is fire the dead wood and then drastically cut benefits (which I assume is the plan). Those that are worth anything will eventually find work that is not sponsored by the tax payer, those that aren't will be forced to live the lifestyle that their talents dictate.

You mean taking responsibility for their own children? It will never happen!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

            I preferred version 1!

Are there no local sports clubs, drama clubs, music clubs, Cadet Forces, scouting clubs or others that might be glad to have new members with parents prepared to volunteer their services?
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Yes, unfortunately the UK has been over extending itself financially for the last decade or so. You will find that the quality of life in this country is about to get significantly worse for virtually everyone who doesn't have the intiaitive to get out. You really need to be worrying about more important things than a few kids hanging around on street corners.

There are a couple of clubs for the younger kids, but there isn't a lot in the 13-16 range. There was the youth club and explorer scouts.
