    More tax coming?

United Nations chief Kofi Annan has shown his support for French plans for a new tax on airline tickets to boost aid for the world's poor.
    ....
"President Jacques Chirac has shown real leadership in efforts to find innovative sources of financing to help the world achieve the Millennium Development Goals," Mr Annan said at the conference, which was called to discuss the tax.

"innovative sources of financing"? New taxes!

Let's just ignore the fact that substantial reasons why the third world is stuffed are the protectionist agricultural policies of the French and the huge subsidies paid by the EU to French farmers.

    Yeah he's a real leader with a capital W.

You're missing the point. France plays hard. They'll soon get everybody doing it. Then they'll get kudos (and arms sales etc) for being nice to the third world, and we'll all be paying French taxes.

Well it's fine for the French, because they are well known for holidaying anywhere as long as it's France.

But this is Britain. You will get the tax as high as France but the holidays as low as Korea (and the services as bad as a poor south american country). And the Government may use these "accomplishments" for the next political campaign.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.
