"Powergen today became the latest UK energy supplier to announce large price hikes, raising bills for its domestic gas and electricity customers by nearly a quarter.

The group, which has around six million UK customers and is owned by Germany’s E.ON, said electricity tariffs would rise by 18.4 per cent with the bill for gas customers increasing by 24.4 per cent.

The inflation statistics are created from the price of things that don't increase, therefore as the price of this has increased dramatically it is not part of the 'basket' used to work out inflation.

Ergo, the answer to your question is that this will not cause inflation.
