Been looking at replacing the workhorse of the Prawn family, the Pug people carrier.

It does the job, but lacks any sort of premium image and is painfully sloooooow.

What wiv global warming meaning the world is freezing and all that snow every autumn/winter/spring I'm planning on ditching it and getting a 4x4.

Was looking at the diesel choices :tired (obvious really), but then saw an ad for a PETROL V8 BMW X5 4.8is. :happy

Once I saw the big wheels and and heard the V8 thunder, I've lost all interest in the tractor engined oil burners.

I'd go for an S4 avant if I wanted a big engine and abit of practicality.

Nah. No V8 roar, no high driving position to lord it over the plebs on the road.

No one moves out of the way for an A4.

A 20' tall V8 fire spitting 4x4 weighing 8 tonnes with wheels wider than SallyAnnes arse.

Its a 4.2 V8 and the new RS6 is the 5.2 V10(?) lambo engine, or something like that.....wolf in sheeps clothing, but no lording it over the plebs in the high riding position i'm afraid.

But is the X5 useful for dogging? Bit cumbersome?

Tinted windows mean it's unsuitable for dogging.
You could put the windows down but its not advisable with the UK weather being what it is

Good point.

Hadn't considered the dogging aspect in inclement weather situations.

The 5 litre V10 RS6 costs a min of £45K for an old one.

That's a lot of wonga for a used estate car, even for a millionaire.

Shrinkage is the last thing you want to experience when dogging

Really, I am suprised. That is an awful lot of wonga.

I've only ever looked at the S4 and having just looked at autotrader I'm also suprised to find that newer S4 only have a 3.0l V6. :frown

Q7s look better in drug dealer circles nowadays.

That's what driving the "right" motor does for you.

Oil burning V10 VW toe-rag?

Oil burning V10 VW toe-rag?

Slower than the petrol 4.8is X5 and about 2 mpg better on fuel. No V8 roar loud enough to make pedestrian scowl at you on the school run.

I'll never go off road, so what's the point?

Actually, I do like the Range Rover Sport.

Come the uprising when the proles take over you'll be glad you've got a 4x4 to escape off road.

Be prepared. Dib dib dib.

I've had numerous 4x4's over the years including the V6 X5 but the 4.8s is the dogs danglies ...

I would still get a Range Rover over that though. I've had 2 before and even though they break down all the time, and you get to know the AA Breakdown driver on first name terms, they're just addictive. In fact, I'm gonna look for another one now...
