Stop putting yourself down. In some countries being 4ft 2'' is considered tall. Well in The Shire and Lilliput obviously.

How about I just give you the dates I am not available and you organise it for when I'm away again.

I don't think there is much point. Just decide on a range of dates and those that can be arsed will turn up on one of them.
Actually, if you are planning on having it in London, then those who are going to have to stay over should decide.

Best to stay way from bank holidays and school holidays as it will be a mare,

Will sort out a poll of dates and venues.

Am assuming we'll still be doing Fridays to cater for the "out of towners"

Am also aware if we post this too early, we'll end up with interest dying like it did when sockpuppet posted about the Xmas bash in September.

Sorry just seen this... That was after the Market Porter, wasn't it? Near London Bridge. I have a feeling the bar was The George Inn. Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=212255653135667353419.00049d5c8b865cbe11bb6&ll=51.504564,-0.090254&spn=0.00081,0.002411&t=h&z=19)

I am more than happy to come along to this one. In fact, lets make it a charity event. You people pledge £10 for each pint I have. I'll take the money out the kitty and give the rest to charity.

Though I don't like to talk about it.

Bar fight? I'm your man!

Concerning the real ale thing. Yeah it's nice but it doesn't appeal
to all, my idea of an evening out is not sitting at a sticky table, while someone makes a rollie, purporting to love real beer, some weedy mohair jacket reject fella from a Mr Sheen advert with goaty beard chastise bankers while some bird in comfortable shoes and a dark haired moustache slowly sips a pint of guest beet extolling the virtues of being a left wing socialist and how it is counter related to their position as a £500 per day contractor
in the city.

Normal pub, normal beers, normal people too much to
ask?

I am not sure what you are talking about, actually.

The 2 Christmas do's I have been to, were not on any council estate. Soho the first year and Islington the next. I do not know London and could therefore not have chosen other than someplace in the middle of the city.

I have never organised one which I have not then turned up to.

you mentioned the mucky pup which is in Islington, but unfortunately is right in the middle of a council estate just off the high st, you couldn't make it that year.

They obviously have very posh council estates in Islington, judging by this view of the pub (http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=51.536332,-0.098576&spn=0.003617,0.009205&z=17&layer=c&cbll=51.536332,-0.098576&panoid=SfCBBRcx_TW24nqrAtHmdA&cbp=12,288.7,,0,0) :rolleyes

It was RH's idea to go to Islington, which he wanted to do for the sake of a restaurant. I only suggested the Mucky Pup because he initially came up with a place on Essex Road that doesn't sell any decent beer whatsoever - I'd been subjected to that place once after a conference, and had no intention of going back (even though I did land one of the best contracts I've ever had while I was in there).

So the Mucky Pup was a decent compromise between those who wanted to go to a good pub but had no interest in restaurants, and those who wanted to go to a nice restaurant and didn't really care where they met for a drink beforehand as long as it was nearby.

I still think Islington is too far from the centre though. There are quite a few good pubs around Covent Garden/Charing Cross/St Giles/Holborn/Soho/Fitzrovia if you know where to look; it's not all tourist traps.
