London Stock Exchange resumes trading after four-hour technical glitch

Trading, which was suspended shortly after the exchange opened for business at 8am, reopened at 12.15pm after technicians fixed a “real time data dissemination issue”.

The LSE, which this month agreed to buy Toronto Stock Exchange owner TMX Group, refused to provide any details as to what actually caused the problem. “Continuous trading has now resumed in all order driven trading services. The next SETSqx uncrossing will take place as scheduled at 3pm,” it said in a statement.

“Quote driven services have also resumed and normal market making obligations now apply. "

Thought you'd gone to the pub? Or are you Alex-no-friends sitting at the bar with your iPad 2 posting on here looking like a twat?

Can't blame MS this time. Better to fix bugs than put a whole new system together.

        real time data dissemination issue
Nice one, does it mean someone fooked up?

On an almost totally unrelated note, I wonder how places that deal with real time (and date) transactions handle the clocks changing, when time repeats itself for an hour each autumn.

Never store or deal with dates and time as dates and time, always clicks since a fixed epoch.

Only convert them to dates and times for display, applying time zone offsets and daylight saving where applicable.

            From Wikipedia

In February 2011, the London Stock Exchange finished the switch to Linux. LSE chief executive Xavier Rolet insisted that the exchange, once a monopoly, would deliver record speed and stable trading in order to fight back against the fast erosion of its dominant marketshare by specialist electronic rivals.

OS written by a student in their holidays.

Serves the feckers right. I hope they lose all their trading business and fold. Gates must be pissing himself.

Makes sense, but where do you get the "clicks since a fixed epoch" from?

A clicky thing that just keeps clicking. Click, click, click.

What happens when the clicky thing goes off-line and you lose track of your clicks?
