Not without hiding from the rent collector.

Is that the same as garbage collector?

Is that the same as garbage collector?

No the rent collector is the guy who dumps all your possessions on the curb when he sees you've spilt pot noodle juice on the carpet.

The garbage collector is the one that takes them to land fill.

I own an iPad and can't see the appeal of getting the new one. Faster and lighter doesn't really sell it to me. The original isn't exactly slow and heavy.

Camera? Meh.

Seems the product is targeted at the peeps who weren't quite swayed to buy the original?

The lack of a camera was a bit of a stumbling block for me. My interest is in buying one for my parents, who are currently computer and internet free. They don't want the internet. But I think the iPad's ease of use, the ability to receive emails for the first time and do a bit of simple web surfing and perhaps video chat would be great. I'm not sure whether an iPad could function for long without the occasional umbilical to a PC though. I'm happy enough with my WiFi only iPod Touch.

Which definition of the word? Gay or Strange?

I've got an iPad 1 but now gonna get rid via eBay after seeing the specs of the new'un and ride the wife's wrath in the process.

It's too late mate - you'd have to offer iPad2 alongside your outdated early alpha of the real thing to stand half a chance of someone bothering to bid for it, and even if someone does it would probably be snaw who would have mistaken it for one of the MFs tat auctions :eyes

It's a unique device that marks you out as a mug who's happy to pay a 150% "apple premium" over the standard price for what is basically a huge battery with a bit of screen attached.

They should attach a proper keyboard to it... or make it pocket size.

What it's for is web-browsing and stuff when you don't need a full keyboard and want something that won't go flat after 2 hours like a laptop.

Its a big iPhone without the phone

Useful if you're a photographer or webdesigner and want to show photos or websites to clients, but just an overpriced toy for anyone else

Any normal photographer or webdesigner would be happy with a laptop, so I assume the iPad is reserved for photographers or webdesigners of the Dandy variety.

To illustrate this I have included images below.

iPad's are also finding favour with DJ's, as they are portable enough to carry around easily in a man bag, and can run various DJ apps for when they do a set.

If Apple can make a 300w speaker set that folds up in to a Kinder Egg, then they might have something on their hands,

The best thing is that all the dumb iTwats that have bought an iPad 1 will now go and upgrade and I'll be able to pick up several for about a tenner a pop and leave them around the house for casual browsing and in the car. I might even get one to leave out for milkman.

I have a Plan B idea. Buying second hand ones and shipping them out to remote parts of Africa so they can be used as multi media table mats.

iTwats - you were warned! iPad 3 will be out in time for Xmas.

I think we have to look at what we use our laptops/tablets/iPhones et al for.

For me if I want to run multiple Linux distro VM's, code my bollocks off, etc I'll get a desktop or a super laptop. No issue. Actually for the VM's I get a pSeries or Coolthreads but we'll let that go for now...

But for me I just want to surf, email, facebook, wank, do spreaddies, docs, presentations, iPad/tablet does it.

I can see a market for it even though when it came out I couldn't - realistically, how much do you really use your lappy for heavy tasks?

Micro hard drive based MP3 players already existed when the iPod came out, all the iPod did differently was the look and feel.

That's a bit like saying Christopher Columbus was the first person to discover America. Except for all the people that had been living there for years.

I had a proper play with an iPad the other day. Cynicism aside, the touch screen and the way the gui responds are quite impressive, as is the feel and lightness of the thing, although there's absolutely no reason why a Windows or Android system couldn't do exactly the same (sorry fanbois, but that's just how it is). I was somewhat underwhelmed by the screen though. This belonged to my Step-Father who has a load of books on there, but I'm not sure it's a screen I'd want to read off. My 3 year old cheapo Dell laptop is much nicer for that (even if it does burn my legs).

Nah, its Apple kit and the model 1 is now 'retro' so i'll be getting twice what I paid for it I reckon.

If any tape jockeys want to club together and make an offer, i'll sort out a monthly payment plan for you.

Seriously though, those who ask what its for, just the ability to lie on the sofa at night and remotely control my other PC's and even run development IDE's remotely makes it worth its asking price for me. I'd previously use a laptop for this but the iPad is smaller, uses much less juice, doesn't toast my knackers, doesn't run out of power after a few hours and doesn't need a power cable trailing across the lounge.

Granted, I didn't have a clue what i'd use it for when I bought it as i'm normally a dick when it comes to buying gadgets for the sake of it but have found it to be genuinely useful for 90% of the tasks i'd normally lug my laptop down for. Had a Netbook for a while in that role but just found it was wank.

Come on then, what does it do that can't be done already by a cheaper more ergonomically friendly device?

Casual sofa surfing is a given, what else?

I can think of plenty it can’t do, it brings nothing to the table yet it has you all mesmerized like a bunch of drooling goons.

I don't get it.
